<< Day 13 Things To Do Before Turning 30 Day 15 >>

I was challenge to visit as many haunted houses in one day as I can. Not sure how much haunted houses are in New York. One?

Instead of a haunted house I decided to visit Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn. There are a lot of information on the Web about the cemetery and what it is famous for, so I am not going to write about it.

Would I surprise you if I say that visiting the cemetery was another thing that I was procrastinating on for a long time. Who likes cemeteries? I don't. Even though the cemetery is National Historic Landmark and it's in many New York City guide-books, I thought that I would never visit the cemetery on my own. I am frighten of so many things in my daily life ;), I don't even need to go to a cemetery! I prefer to avoid those intense negative emotions, that's why I've never watched a horror movie, visited a haunted house in my life.

I went to the cemetery just because I needed to do something new and challenging, I didn't want to miss last warm days in New York, and from pictures on the Internet it looked like seeing the cemetery in fall colors wasn't such a bad idea. So, I went there.

From the minute I saw the main entrance of the cemetery it amazed me! It looked absolutely beautiful. I walked in felling very good and excited to see it. I walked through the cemetery looking at the old tombs and monuments of different shapes. The weather was nice and sunny. The cemetery wasn't crowded. Everything around was very peaceful, maybe too much peaceful... Every little noise frightened me - a noise of falling leaves, birds... And I am very serious now ;). The cemetery was huge and nobody was there, at least I didn't see anybody...

After walking through it for 40 minutes the peacefulness became irritable, I felt pretty tired from climbing steep hills, the sun was slowly getting down... It wasn't very pleasant and I decided that it was time to go back. I put all my belongings into bag, got ready my MetroCard and headed towards the exit. I was taking the camera from the bag a couple of times to take pictures on the way back. It took me another 20 minutes to get to the exit. I put the camera into the bag, but I couldn't find the MetroCard. You can believe me or not, but I didn't plan to leave anything at the cemetery ;). So, I came back, the same road to find the MetroCard.

You can not imagine how happy I was when I saw my MetroCard on the road! Nothing was left there!

Happy Halloween!
